🎯 How to Use CW Sender Pro

CW Sender Pro is an interactive Morse code trainer that helps you master CW (Continuous Wave) transmission. The tool offers multiple game modes, from structured learning to specialized practice.

Basic Controls:

  • Tap to Send: Click, tap, or press the spacebar on the transmit button to send dots and dashes
  • Short tap = Dot (.) - Press briefly (under 185ms)
  • Long press = Dash (-) - Hold longer (185ms+)
  • Character complete: After you stop tapping, wait 850ms and your character will be checked automatically

💡 Tip: The interface shows your current mode in the sidebar. Look for the icon and name to know which mode you're in!

Progress Tracking:

  • Accuracy: Displayed in the header - aim for 80%+ to progress
  • Level: Current lesson level (in structured modes)
  • Progress: Shows your position in the current set (e.g., 7/10)
  • Save/Load: Your progress can be saved and loaded anytime

📖 Koch Method (Structured Learning)

The Koch Method is a proven technique for learning Morse code that introduces letters gradually in a specific order based on their distinctiveness and usefulness.

How It Works:

  • Start with 2 letters: K and M - these are very different and easy to distinguish
  • Master before moving on: You must achieve 80% accuracy on a set of 10 characters to unlock the next letter
  • Progressive difficulty: Each new level adds one more letter to your pool
  • Mixed practice: New letter appears 70% of the time, previous letters 30%
  • Full sequence: K-M-R-S-U-A-P-T-L-O-W-I-N-J-E-F-Y-V-G-Q-Z-H-B-C-X

Tips for Success:

  • Listen to the rhythm first - each letter has a unique "sound"
  • Don't count dots and dashes - recognize the pattern as a whole
  • Practice at full speed from the start (18-20 WPM character speed)
  • If you fail a level, you'll repeat it - this reinforces learning

💡 Why this order? The Koch sequence starts with very distinct letters and gradually adds more similar-sounding ones, making it easier to build pattern recognition.

⚡ Practice Modes

Once you've mastered some letters through the Koch Method, use these practice modes to reinforce specific skills and patterns.

👥 Letter Pairs

Practice common two-letter combinations that appear frequently in English and ham radio: TH, CH, ST, QU, etc. This builds fluency with letter transitions and helps you recognize common patterns quickly.

📻 Callsigns

Practice realistic amateur radio callsigns like M0ICR, W1AW, K3LR. Mixes letters and numbers in formats used worldwide. Perfect for preparing for on-air operation. Callsigns follow standard patterns: prefix (1-2 letters/numbers) + region number + suffix (1-3 letters).

🏷️ Q-Codes

Learn essential ham radio Q-codes used in CW contacts:
• QTH = Your location
• QSL = I confirm receipt
• QRZ = Who is calling me?
• QRM = I am being interfered with
• QSB = Your signals are fading
These are vital for real-world CW operation.

✨ Prosigns

Master special prosigns (procedural signals) sent as single characters without spacing:
• AR = End of message
• SK = End of contact
• BT = Break/separator
• KN = Go ahead, specific station only
These are sent as continuous sequences and have unique sounds.

🔢 Numbers Only

Focus exclusively on digits 0-9. Essential for signal reports (599, 579), frequencies, times, and serial numbers in contests. Numbers in Morse are 5 elements each, making them longer than most letters.

📝 Common Words

Practice frequently used CW words and abbreviations: THE, AND, CQ (calling any station), DE (from/this is), RST (signal report), etc. Building automaticity with these makes real contacts much easier.

👁️ Blindfold Mode

Challenge Mode! The character is displayed for only 1 second, then disappears. Forces you to rely purely on the audio pattern rather than visual reference. This simulates real-world conditions where you must decode by ear.

🎯 Custom Practice

Enter any string of characters you want to practice (letters, numbers, or symbols). Perfect for drilling specific problem characters or practicing your own callsign repeatedly. No scoring - just pure practice.

🎮 How to Know Which Mode You're In

The sidebar always shows your current mode with three clear indicators:

  • Icon: Visual symbol (📖 for Koch, 📻 for Callsigns, etc.)
  • Mode Name: Full name displayed in purple
  • Category: "Structured Lessons", "Practice Mode", or "Challenge Mode"

Click the "🎮 Choose Game Mode" button anytime to switch between modes. Your active selection is highlighted in the modal.

💡 Pro Tips

  • Use headphones: Better audio clarity helps pattern recognition
  • Short practice sessions: 15-20 minutes daily is better than marathon sessions
  • Focus on rhythm: Don't count elements - feel the rhythm of each character
  • Stay relaxed: Tension in your hand affects timing
  • Track your progress: Use the Save function to preserve your achievements
  • Mix it up: Alternate between structured learning and practice modes
