Book three ferries early
Uig–Tarbert, Leverburgh–Berneray, and Oban–Craignure are the ones that can strand you if full. Barra–Oban runs direct only a few days a week — check it against your dates.
October daylight
Roughly 8am–6pm. Plan to be settled at camp before dark, especially on the exposed north coast and island legs.
Camping in shoulder season
Many campsites close through October — farm stays are built in on the more exposed, weather-risky nights. Pack for genuinely wet, windy conditions.
